If you buy the right used product for you it can be a great purchase. No doubt you can certainly get better deals with bigger ticket items such as fitness equipment?
I don’t think so. Sometimes one person’s junk is another person’s nightmare. That said, sometimes you can buy a lemon when purchased used.
Check out used fitness equipment if risk sits well with you.
Buying a used treadmill is like buying a used car
I’m looking this year for a used vehicle, but I’m not really interested in looking at classifieds … I prefer a higher level of reliability.
Part of this consideration has to take into account how handy you are … in case you need to self-repair your purchase.
You can reduce the risk by buying from someone you can bring a lemon back to such as a retail store selling used treadmills.
Just as dealers sell used vehicles, treadmill retailers sell refurbished treadmills. Is it a guaranteed good buy? Not at all. Is it less risky than buying a used treadmill from someone advertising on Craigslist? In my opinion it is.
Of course retailers charge more
It’s not so bad that the dealer will earn a profit as long as the treadmill is properly refurbished.
Pros to buying a used treadmill
The only advantage to buying a used treadmill is the POSSIBLE cost-savings. If you buy a good treadmill, such as a walking treadmill used, you’ll undoubtedly get a great deal paying a fraction of what it cost new.
You must take into account the potential wasted time and aggravation if you buy a non-working used treadmill.
Hotels or gyms can often sell good used treadmills
I mention the gym or hotel option because it’s similar to buying a car from a vehicle rental company.
That said, gyms buy top notch treadmills. Even if you have to replace the deck, if all else works well, it could be an outstanding deal – getting a commercial grade treadmill for a fraction of the cost.
The following are questions to ask when you buy a used treadmill:
Be sure to test the exercise equipment
The number of treadmill hours on the machine
What’s the purpose of it being sold?
How much did they pay for it (they may not answer this)?
When was it purchased new?
Be sure to get a copy of the user manual (if they don’t have it, get a copy from the manufacturer).
Were any parts replaced? If so, which parts and why?
Is it still under warranty? Does the warranty transfer with new ownership (you may have to contact the manufacturer)?
Was the treadmill used for running, jogging, and/or walking primarily?
When is buying used exercise equipment a smart move?
An excellent situation for buying used is if you’re not sure how much you’ll use the treadmill … used means you won’t spend too much in the event you don’t end up using it much.
I’ll end with suggesting you also check out treadmill sales online because lately prices are dropping and there are amazing deals.
